Met de jaren is Thorbecke een wat mythische figuur geworden, een monument. In de eerste volledige biografie sinds jaren brengt Remieg Aerts deze intrigerende staatsman tot leven, in een breed panorama van de politiek, wetenschap en cultuur van de negentiende eeuw".
