Description
'SchizoLeaks' is Thomas Kvam's first museum exhibition, and mainly presents three parts of the artist's most comprehensive project where he uses the leak in different ways- as a creative or practical tool. For ten years, Kvam has worked with some of the most unpleasant and inflamed phenomena of his time in his art - from war crimes to school murder, racism and exclusion - in what he calls his 'life frieze of evil'. Kvam collects information that may be hidden or inaccessible and transforms it into a comprehensive universe of codes and references. In several cases, Kvam's use of such information has exposed him to attempts at censorship. Several of the exhibition's projects thus also go directly into the recent attention to freedom of expression in art. The exhibition contains what for many can be an almost overwhelming amount of information, and as such serves as a mirror image of precisely the technology-driven reality Kvam itself is trying to grasp in its work. Inspired by postmodern media theorists and activists such as Julian Assange, Kvam's project is far from an attempt to find out what happens to humanity when influential phenomena in society increasingly push us humans towards being the commodity sold in the digital the algorithmic machinery of attention economy. The digital media reality today is most of all about staying as long as possible on specific websites, in specific apps, within specific game worlds.
