Knutte Wester's public artwork 'Romanoparken- Song of a place' takes shape from a thousand-year history of anti-Gypsyism, persecution and oppression that meant constantly being on the run. A history that for many is still completely unknown. The work on the project has involved a long journey in the borderland between politics, municipal activities, contemporary art and issues concerning the national minority Roma. Areas with strong history, tradition and identity, and their own way of operating. This led to a complexity that emerged more and more clearly during the course of the project. The book Romanoparken consists of notes, letters and conversations that open up and give insight into the long collective process behind the work. It depicts the two years from the start of the project to the reformulation of the assignment and the start of the production phase. Through personal testimonies and different perspectives on contemporary history than those usually highlighted, the book also highlights the structural racism, discrimination and exclusion that travelers and Roma are exposed to in Sweden. today. Boken Romanoparken utgörs av anteckningar, brev och samtal som öppnar upp och ger insyn i den långa kollektiva processen bakom verket. Den skildrar de två år från att projektet påbörjades till att uppdraget omformulerades och produktionsfasen inleddes. Genom personliga vittnesmål och andra perspektiv på nutidshistoria än de som vanligtvis framhävs, belyser boken även den strukturella rasism, diskriminering och exkludering som resande och romer utsätts för i Sverige än idag. Den berättar samtidigt om sociala center och mötesplatser, om gemenskap, om kampen för rättigheter, erkännande och upprättelse
