Description
Elle fut, en 1930, parmi les premières élèves de l'Institut Supérieur des Arts Décoratifs (La Cambre) dirigé par Henry van de Velde à Bruxelles. Dans l'atelier d'illustration du livre et de publicité, elle s'initie aux différents modes de gravures et à la composition typographique et fonde dès 1934, avec trois autres élèves, une maison d'édition d'arts graphiques, " Les Quatre ". Son travail, d'abord dans la ligne des grands graveurs belges, Masereel, Cantré, Minne, s'imprègne progressivement de surréalisme, puis sa rencontre en 1935 avec le peintre expressionniste hollandais Arie van de Giessen et les atrocités de la guerre infléchissent son art vers des tonalités sombres et mélancoliques. Au fil des ans sa facture devient lyrique, elle se tourne vers la nature et traduit dans de grandes aquarelles sa fascination pour la lumière et ses fluctuations.
