Description

I wrote my first jingle in 1965 for a chocolate drink company in St. Louis. In the early 1970s, I continued to write while teaching high school and college English until 1977. I left teaching and began full-time work in the jingle business. By the mid-1980s, the business had changed dramatically due to the advent of computers and synthesizers. Yet, the focus of my book remains to this day relevant to those who want to compose musical IDs for companies and organizations. Though we don't hear many local and regional jingles on the air these days, the purpose of a jingle in advertising still makes sense. Music sells! Using the techniques from my book for both creating and selling commercial music -- with appropriate updating for the new technology -- can help anyone who wants to get into the business of commercial music. If you can create a great musical hook and then find someone with the money and interest in creating a memorable identification for their business, this book will get you started.
