Endlich war es den Künstlern möglich, unter Verwendung von unterschiedlich geschnittenen Holzstücken eine Hell-Dunkel-Modulation mit sensibler Farbgestaltung zu erzeugen. Die Graphische Sammlung des Wallraf-Richartz-Museums besitzt eine Vielzahl von Farbholzschnitten und zeigt sie nun erstmals als ein Ensemble: "Eine graphische Revolution: Der italienische Farbholzschnitt des 16. Jahrhunderts" vereint mehr als 30 Blätter von bekannten Holzschneidern wie Ugo da Carpi, Antonio da Trento oder Andrea Andriani.
