Description
Mehr als 150 Jahre galt der Wolf in Deutschland als ausgerottet, doch seit neuestem kann er auch wieder in unseren Breiten angetroffen werden. Mit ihm zurückgekehrt sind aber auch die Mär vom bösen Wolf und die dadurch geschürte Angst vieler Menschen vor dem geschützten Tier. Gründe genug für das Wallraf, sich dem Thema mit einer eigenen Ausstellung aus kunsthistorischer Sicht zu nähern. Dazu zeigt das Museum die Sonderschau 'Der Wolf - Zwischen Mythos und Märchen'. Dreissig graphische Werke von Meistern wie Raffael, Rubens, Corinth und Klinger erzählen aus künstlerischer Perspektive vom komplizierten Verhältnis zwischen Mensch und Wolf. Künstler wie Raffael, Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, Peter Paul Rubens, Johann Elias Ridinger, Gustav Doré, Lovis Corinth und Max Klinger setzten sich in ihren Werken intensiv mit dem Wolf und den sich um ihn rankenden Legenden auseinander. Damit schufen sie wiederum neue, nicht minder imaginäre 'Bilder' von ihm und setzten diese in die Welt. Die Ausstellung folgt somit auch den Spuren in die Abgründe der menschlichen Phantasie.
