Description
Continuous time parameter Markov chains have been useful for modeling various random phenomena occurring in queueing theory, genetics, demography, epidemiology, and competing populations. This is the first book about those aspects of the theory of continuous time Markov chains which are useful in applications to such areas. It studies continuous time Markov chains through the transition function and corresponding q-matrix, rather than sample paths. An extensive discussion of birth and death processes, including the Stieltjes moment problem, and the Karlin-McGregor method of solution of the birth and death processes and multidimensional population processes is included, and there is an extensive bibliography. Virtually all of this material is appearing in book form for the first time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages are in Continuous-time Markov chains?
This edition of Continuous-time Markov chains has approximately 372 pages. Please note, this is an estimate and the exact page count can vary between hardcover, paperback, and e-book versions.
How long does it take to read Continuous-time Markov chains?
For most readers, Continuous-time Markov chains typically takes between 7h 45m and 5h 10m to complete. This is based on the book's length of approximately 93,000 words and common reading speeds.
Here's a detailed breakdown: • Continuous reading at 250 WPM: approximately 6h 12m of focused reading • Casual reading (30 minutes/day): you could finish in roughly 13 days • Estimated word count: 93,000 words
Your individual reading time will vary based on your personal reading pace, the amount of daily reading time, and your familiarity with the subject matter.
What is the word count of Continuous-time Markov chains?
The estimated word count for Continuous-time Markov chains is approximately 93,000 words. This figure is calculated using industry-standard methods that consider genre-specific word density patterns, typical formatting and layout characteristics, and standard words-per-page ratios for published books.
This is an approximation — actual word count may vary based on font size, formatting, edition, and the presence of illustrations or charts.
Who is the author of Continuous-time Markov chains?
